Kirkcaldy, known as the “Lang Toun”, is one of the major population centres in Fife. It was known as a linoleum making and coal mining town. Today, many of the vestiges of the area's industrial heritage have long since disappeared, to be replaced by bustling towns with extensive attractions to keep the whole family occupied. Kirkcaldy itself is the main shopping centre of the area and has a very attractive pedestrianised High Street. Kirkcaldy Farmers' Market is held on the last Saturday of each month in the Town Square, adjacent to the Town Hall and near the bus station.
